2024-2025 West Portal Elementary Education Fund:
Funding the Future
The West Portal Parents Club (WPPC) is proud to support our vibrant community of teachers, students, and families. While tax dollars pay for the basic minimum infrastructure of the school, it is the financial support from families that enables several of our most beloved staff, programs, and events to be such a meaningful and integral part of every child’s education at West Portal Elementary School (WPES). This year, in particular—with budget cuts, major construction, and overall district funding uncertainty—donations will be even more critical to fund the future.
WPPC’s largest expenditure each year is funding various staff salaries. This year in particular, district budget cuts forced WPPC to nearly double its spend to 60% of the annual budget to fund 100% of staff salaries for World Music, Garden Science, Yard Monitors, a Recess Coordinator, and an ELD Paraprofessional. It is difficult even to imagine our school without these dynamic programs that have become hallmarks of the West Portal student experience.
Fundraising to ensure the continuity of these programs is the WPPC’s highest priority.
Last year, WPPC also funded cherished annual traditions like the Olema camping trip, Pumpkin Patch, Read-a-Thon, Lunar New Year Festival, Spring Musical, Rock Show, and Maker Playground. Donations to WPPC also funded a school t-shirt for every student, supplies for classrooms, and equipment for staff.
All of these events and programs are for every student and every family in our school community. WPPC is honored to play such a significant role in contributing to what makes our school so truly special.
We sincerely hope you will consider contributing to this year’s Ed Fund campaign for the benefit of WPPC. No amount is too small, and all donors will be recognized equally. All Ed Fund donations are eligible for tax deductions and corporate matching.
On behalf of nearly six hundred little Panthers and their amazing educators, thank you for helping us enhance West Portal Elementary School in so many essential ways.
Sincerely,
The West Portal Parents Club (WPPC), with support from
Henry Wong, Principal
Pamela Aguilar, Assistant Principal
WPPC’s Fundraising Goals and Budget
Similar to last year, the Parents Club will fundraise only two times in the 2024-2025 school year — this Education Fund campaign and the Spring Auction — to reach our annual goal of raising $375,000. With our current enrollment of 593 students, we need to raise $632 per student to meet this year’s budget needs. Fundraising comes primarily from families and corporate matching gifts.
All donations are eligible for tax deductions and corporate matching. If you have questions about how to sign-up for corporate matching, please contact the Ed Fund team at EdFund@westportalparentsclub.org.
